Euthanizing dogs has been one of the solutions in which vets and pound employees have decided to choose when it comes to dogs who are sick, in horrible condition from previous owners ,and because of overpopulation. So, i decided to focus my topic on the reasons why dogs are being euthanized and what happen when a dog is being prepared to be euthanized.
As dogs are known to be a man’s best friend and hold the many personality traits similar to humans like brave, loyal, loving, caring and strong they are still unfortunately being put to sleep due to the conditions they are in.
My first dog Miley, who had a knee problem when she was only four years old, was put to sleep. Her vet gave us two choices on the best thing to do for Miley’s critical problem it was to either put her to sleep or have her be on medication for the rest of her life. Since we did not want Miley to be in pain anymore my dad made the decision into putting her to sleep. Due to this event that has had an effect on my life i can understand and relate on how it feels to put a dog to sleep due to the conditions she was in.
According to the ASPCA Pet Statistics, there are about 7.6 million animals entering into different pounds around the world and 2.7 million pound animals being euthanized each year. From the 2.7 million animals being euthanized, 1.2 million consist of dogs being put to sleep.

Euthanizing happens due to abusive owners who do not understand the time,effort and care it takes to support a dog. In a way it is very similar to taking care of a child of your own. It is important to show love for an animal so that they are able to have a happy life.
Just like Miley a lot of other dogs would have to go through the same process of being put to sleep due to their health conditions. Some dogs have even worse luck and have abusive owners who could care less about their own dog. There are dogs who are left with no food or water and those dogs who even do one thing wrong would get beaten by their abusive owners.
But there are some dogs in pounds who are in critical health conditions or are one of the older dogs in the group. As pounds are unable to help all dogs who are strays or abused due to the overpopulation in these animal shelters, they tend to aid to those dogs who are healthy and are able to get along with other animals easily.
After learning more about this topic I am hoping to answer these questions about euthanizing dogs.Why are dogs being euthanized? Are owners doing the right thing for the dog when they decide to put them to sleep? What are more reason why dogs are being put to sleep? Why are owners mistreating their dogs? Why do owners decide to put them in pounds? What is the process of a dog being euthanized? What are fines if you mistreat your dog? Is it okay for dangerous dogs to be put to sleep? How many animals do animal shelters are able to help with?
